Providence - Jerusalem Exchange Fellowship on Israel / Palestine

The Providence-Jerusalem Exchange Fellowship Program will provide students from Brown University (Brown) and Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) with a year-long program of study focused on Israeli-Palestinian relations.

FellowshipMore broadly, the program investigates how different groups of people relate to land and place and how their self-understandings of land and place are reflected in art, culture, historical memory, community, and civic and political discourse.

Fellows in this cohort-based program will be immersed in two different civic and social environments: Providence and Jerusalem. Through coursework, learning trips, social events and community engagement activities, students will be challenged to engage constructively with viewpoints other their own and deepen their understandings of intercultural relations, civil society, and political possibility.

Structure

Twelve students – 6 from Brown and 6 from HUJI – will live and study in Providence at Brown in the fall and in Jerusalem at HUJI in the spring. They will take two required courses together each semester on topics relevant to the program, taught by affiliated faculty, and select two to three additional elective courses. Students will also participate in community engagement opportunities through workshops and site visits throughout the year.

Eligibility/Timeline

Rising juniors and seniors are eligible to apply. For Brown students, fluency in Hebrew and/or Arabic is not a requirement, but working knowledge of either language will be beneficial.
